Venue Feature:

The Chenney Place

This wedding at The Cheney Place perfectly reflects what I love most about Downtown Grand Rapids, MI weddings — intentional details, beautiful natural light, and a warehouse converted venue that has the most insane golden hour light during cocktail hour.

I’ve been shooting weddings in and around Grand Rapids long enough to see what works and what doesn’t, and TCP (as the locals often call it) always stands out. Here’s a look behind the walls — what makes it special, what to watch out for, and lots of visual inspo for your own day.

A Bit About The Place

  • Urban boutique meets vintage soul
The Cheney Place is a renovated warehouse in Grand Rapids, built for couples who want that “industrial + modern + vintage” mashup. Its signature features include polished concrete floors, original hardwood in parts, exposed beams, frosted warehouse-style windows, and an old freight elevator tucked into the design.

  • All in one roof
You can host your ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in the same building — no need to shuttle guests around. That continuity is such a gift, especially when you’re trying to maximize time for photos instead of travel.

  • Vintage furnishings ready to go
One of the neat perks: TCP carries a large selection of vintage furniture, décor items, and rental pieces on site. Means less stressing over every chair or side-piece — you can lean into their library of cool bits.

  • Space & guest capacity
The venue can seat up to ~300 guests (or host that many standing), depending on layout. Because the layout is open and flexible, you have the freedom to configure things in ways that suit your vision.

  • Location & logistics
Address: 1600 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids. Their hours, parking, and staff logistics are things to check early.

If I were giving one piece of advice to anyone considering The Cheney Place: treat it like a beautiful blank canvas — bring your vision, but also lean into what the space already gives you. Work closely with their team early, make sure logistics are clear, and lean into capturing the mood. It’s the kind of place where with the right plan, your day feels curated, authentic, and vibrant.
